VISIT THE GARDEN

The Cullman Native Plant Society Invites you to leisurely enjoy the wildflower Garden. The trails include well-marked walkways through a meadow, the wooded area, a bog garden, fern garden, trillium trail and grass garden.

The garden is open every day of the year when Sportsman Lake Park is open. The gate is usually only closed in extreme weather. It is nice all year long. Winter shows the shape of the trees, spring flowers start in late February or early March in the woods, Then April the ferns emerge. The meadow begins to bloom in May and there are several Fall-blooming flowers.

The garden is located within Sportsman Lake Park, just off of U.S. Highway 31 North in Cullman, AL.

Once you have reached Sportsman Lake park you will take a right down a service road. Follow the service road for 900 feet and look for the entrance arbor for the wildflower garden on your right. There is gravel parking lot located directly across from the garden which you are free to use.

We also do tours for large visiting groups and classrooms. Please arrange your tour in advance by contacting Nona Moon at moonland@bellsouth.net.

We have a few guidelines for visiting the garden. Please follow them and help us keep the garden beautiful for all of our visitors:

Please stay on the paths.
Unlike most modern landscaping plants these plants do not stand up well to lots of foot traffic. We have lots of wonderful paths and feel free to move about them as much as you like. Stepping off the paths into the plants beds can compress the plants root structures stressing the plants and making them more susceptible to disease. I think you will agree that keeping the garden nice for everyone is more important than getting a Facebook cover photo. (Yes, hipsters lying in the fern beds with a selfy-stick, we are talking about your ridiculous behavior.)

Please do not Litter.
We would like to work on other projects in the garden than pick up your litter. Please if you brought it in please take it with you.

Please do not pick or dig up the flowers and plants.
We would like for everyone to experience the beauty of the garden. Please do not pick the flowers or dig up the plants. If you would like some native plants for your garden we have a plant sale for the public every other year at the garden please go to our website for more information

If you see something say something.
We like being able to keep the garden open at all times for visitors, however, we cannot police the garden at all times. If you see any behaviors or vandalism that you believe are inappropriate please bring it to the attention of the park staff at Sportsman's Lake.

Thank you for helping us keep the garden beautiful.
